Position Profile: The Special Areas Board requires a Range Rider Assistant from approximately May 1 to October 31. The Assistant is needed at the Bullpound Community Pasture, located south of Hanna, Alberta approximately 18 miles.

Responsibilities of this position include assisting the Community Pasture Supervisor with admitting, treating, and recording and removing cattle at the pasture; a variety of maintenance and repair work on buildings, fences, water systems and corrals.

Position Title: Heavy Duty Mechanic I

Position Profile: The Special Areas Board is currently seeking a permanent full-time position located in Youngstown, Alberta at the Special Areas Board’s modern 19 bay vehicle and equipment Service Centre in Youngstown, AB. The Special Areas Board maintains a large municipal road construction and maintenance program with over 300 pieces of equipment. The Board operates a modernized fleet of equipment and is focused on a detailed preventative maintenance program.

The emphasis of this position will be on organizing, implementing and performing major lube service intervals both in the field and in a shop setting. This task will require exceptional organizational skills, sense of urgency and sufficient computer skills (Microsoft Excel and Word). Other duties may include analysis and repair of diesel engines, trucks (gravel, water and oil distribution), trailers, motor graders, scrapers, crawlers, tractors, various types of packers, and other types of smaller equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS: Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic Certificate, valid in the province of Alberta and several years related experience with Commercial Vehicle Inspection knowledge. A Driver’s License is necessary. Additional information may be directed to Shaune Kovitch, Shop Supervisor.

An exciting NEW summer employment opportunity is available within the Travel Special Areas Mobile Visitor Services Program. Increase your knowledge of the Special Areas and MD of Acadia #34 while experiencing events, landmarks and destinations that the region has to offer. Travel Special Areas Mobile Visitor Services is a NEW program developed to promote and grow tourism initiatives within the region. This position will work under the supervision of the Economic Development Officer in the Consort office.

We are seeking a summer student that is outgoing, personable, resourceful, proactive and enthusiastic about promoting the Special Areas and the MD of Acadia #34. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and promotional skills are required for this position.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Proactively promote attractions, events, experiences and destinations around the region by travelling with the Mobile Visitor Services booth. • Assist visitors with planning their itinerary. • Connect with the local tourism industry. • Administrative duties such as reporting, graphic design, writing and managing Social Media platforms will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of Grade 12 diploma. Preference will be given to candidates with post-secondary education in Tourism and Hospitality or similar programs. Social media savvy, proficient with word and excel is an asset.

This person should be a team player who is able to work independently, but likes interacting with crowds. Unconventional work hours are required for this position including some evenings, weekends and Statutory Holidays. Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle is required.
